There is a lot of heart here, but the movie is let down by a very low budget, some very poor acting, and some abysmal effect work. You cannot get immersed in a movie like this, which means it cannot build any tension, which means everything is just noise on the screen. The antagonist monster is truly awful looking, and while I understand the sentiment, it just looks really, really bad. It is sock puppet quality, and you can tell from a mile off.
